Rashi by date of birth: why time matters

Find out how a Moon Rashi calculator uses your birth date, local time and time zone, and what a date-only estimate can tell you when the time is unknown.

MANNGALAM editorial guide · Updated 8 October 2026

Moon Rashi and Sun sign are different

Our Rashi tool estimates the sidereal zodiac sign of the Moon using the birth date, local birth time and selected time zone. A Sun-sign chart based only on month and day answers a different question. Enter the local time as recorded, then select the time zone for the birthplace and date.

Uncertain times can mean uncertain results

The Moon can cross a sign boundary within a day. If you do not know the time, use unknown-time mode: it checks samples across the local date and can show more than one possible sign. The birthplace text is a reference for choosing a time zone; this tool does not automatically locate the city or calculate an ascendant.

Read the estimate alongside its limits

The calculator uses a lunar position calculation and an approximate mean Lahiri adjustment. Near a boundary it shows neighbouring signs. For a personal chart, especially with uncertain birth times, ask a practitioner to confirm the result. Birth entries are processed in your browser and are not saved or added to a share link.
